Is anyone doing anything with Posterous.com ?
It supports MetaWebLog API so should work ok with ExpressionEngine but it also has an API - http://posterous.com/api

Looks like this is a way to “post everything online using email”? If so, EE comes with its very own Moblog module which, to me, seems to be doing the same thing?

Sort of.
Posterous does some nice stuff with attachments converting Word docs into ePaper docs and hosts video and audio files for you too. Don’t ask me how they make money doing that but it saves a stack of bandwidth for some people.
It also will autopost images to flicker, post to twitter, wordpress.com - all from one email.

Posterous has the added benefit of also auto-posting to Twitter, Facebook, and others at the same time. It’s really quite handy.
I’m sure you could set up ExpressionEngine to do this with the right plugins and programming, but Posterous does it out of the box.
I’m going to try setting up the MetaWebLog settings in Posterous to post to EE and see what happens.

I just tested it and it works fine. Haven’t tried it with any images or anything, which is primarily what I use posterous for (posting mobile images that go to Twitter, Facebook, and Flickr all at once).

Except it strips out the angle brackets in tags. So when I post, I end up with something like this:
div a href=“http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2009/06/review-tiger-woods-pga-tour-10-showcases-motionplus-perfectly.ars"img src=‘http://static.arstechnica.com/assets/2009/06/Tiger10screen-thumb-640xauto-6163.jpg’ width=‘500’ height=’‘/ border=‘0’/a div class=“posterous_quote_citation"via a href=“http://arstechnica.com/gaming/reviews/2009/06/review-tiger-woods-pga-tour-10-showcases-motionplus-perfectly.ars"arstechnica.com/a/div pThis looks absolutely amazing. I’m going to have to get it./p/div p style=“font-size: 10px;” a href=“http://posterous.com"Posted via web/a from a href=“http://fitzage.posterous.com/review-tiger-woods-pga-tour-10-showcases-moti"Matthew’s posterous/a /p

I’d guess something isn’t encoding the html to make it XML safe. ie. it’s not converting the angle brackets to xml entities.

I figured it out. It’s PHP 5.2.6 libxml issues. Upgrading to 5.2.9

fitzage: Can you post instructions for hooking up Posterous & EE using the MetaWebLog settings? I can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks!

I just got the Metaweblog URL from the Metaweblog module, and entered that for Posterous along with my EE username and password.

Do you use a special weblog for the posterous entries?
I got it running on a development site where data is stored in the default_site weblog, but now I´ve got a little problem while trying to post stuff from posterous into a special “posterous-weblog”.
Posterous displays the following error message: “Invalid Section Selection”
I´ve configured the “posterous-weblog” similar to the default one, but it doesn´t work. Any tips to solve this issue?

Ok got it. The problem was that I deleted the default_weblog, but posterous needs a weblog with ID 1.
Changing my custom weblogs ID in phpMyAdmin to “1” solves this issue and everything works fine 😊

I’m not having any joy! :(
I did the following:
- I have installed the Metaweblog API
- I have copied and pasted the URL it supplied me
- I have a weblog with ID of 1
- I get stuck at Posterous trying to add a new location where to post to.
I get the following error:
“We were not able to authenticate this account. Reason: We could not find a valid endpoint”
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

That´s really curious! I have integrated a posterous account a time ago and this runs without problems.
Trying to set up another one runs into the same error you got.
I´ve tried it with “Movable Type” and “Other blog” at posterous, but both failed. Maybe posterous has changed something on their API?!?
I´ll try it with some other settings later and keep you informed!

Thanks, Jang! Much appreciated.
I have a feeling something might have changed on their end. 😊 crossing my fingers!
