Bug #23277 See Comments

External links redirect warning message in the CP

Version: 3.5.11 Reporter: chunkitchris

This is an archived bug report. If you are experiencing a similar issue, upgrade to the latest release and if that does not solve the problem, submit a new bug report

I am not sure if this is a bug or not but there was no problem when my site is still on 3.5.0. Recently i updated my site from 3.5.0 to 3.5.11 on my local server and see if this ran okay. I immediately found out that whenever I click an external link or a template preview (the eye icon), for example, ExpressionEngine 3.5.12 Released, the wanring message appeared. Here is the warning message:

Warning: You’re opening a new web page (https://expressionengine.com/blog/expressionengine-3.5.12-released) that is not part of [My site name]. Double check that the web page address is correct. Would you like to Continue to the new page or Stay put?”

When I click Continue, it will land to the page properly.

Please note that i did not change any settings; i simply did an update.

  • Aha, the version number was the missing detail in your comment on this duplicate report. Version 3.5.8 tightened security around the use of those redirect pages, and version 3.5.12 fixed a bug that involved subdomain mis-matches, which I suspect is what is happening on your local environment.

Update to 3.5.12 and this should be resolved. If it is not, please provide the full details of the URL you are on in your control panel, and the URL in your address bar on the redirect warning page. Thanks!

  • Thanks for those details Chris, that allowed me to reproduce the error; it’s the non-standard port 8888 that is causing the warning. You can ignore it during local development, as it should not occur on the production site.
