Version: 3.5.7 Reporter: Senad Milavic —
Experienced problem in 3.5.6, tried updating to 3.5.7, but it doesn’t solve issue. I just got a message in EE control panel saying that software licence key has invalid signature and that I need to add the key. (worked without any problems for a year , until now). I download a new key from my purchase page and upload it to EE control panel, but EE doesn’t want to accept it. Every time I try to add the license.key file, EE gives me error message saying: “License Invalid The license file provided has an invalid signature.”

Hi Senad,
It sounds like you may have some corrupt files on your server. I would try re-uploading the
system/ee
folder then try adding your license key.06th June, 2017 at 11:44am
Hi Seth,
Thanks for your comment. I already uploaded system/ee folder while updating EE from 3.5.6 to 3.5.7 (and did the update to solve this issue), and it didn’t solve it. But now, I copied system/ee to the server again and still the same problem. Every time I try to add license.key file in EE control panel, it says that license file has invalid signature. And I only see 1 license key I can download under my purchase info.

Hi Sednad,
Can you email a copy of your license file to team@ellislab.com so our support team can take a look at it?

Hi Seth, For some reason, when I log in to CP today, the message about unregistered software is gone and my license key is displayed in control panel. Didn’t work entire day yesterday, but today the issue is gone by itself!? Maybe the issue was with authentication servers, not with EE installation? If you still think I should send the license key file to support team, I can do so, but this strange “self fix” might indicate that issue was not in the local install, or license key file it self?

Hi Sednad,
It sounds like the problem was environmental and not with the key itself. Keep an eye on it and if it happens again let us know.

Hi Seth,
This was posted long ago, so not sure if you will follow up on new comment here. But the problem is back again.
Same issue as last time, one day I logged in and have a message saying my EE software is not registered and that I should add license key: “Software Unregistered The license file provided has an invalid signature. Please upload your license.”.
Downloaded the key from my purchase page again and tried to upload it, but system keeps telling me that license key has invalid signature. Tried uploading system/ee folder again, but still can’t add license key as system rejects it every time with “invalid signature” message.

Hi Senad,
Do you know if your webhost has made any recent changes to its PHP configs or other environmental changes?

Hi Seth,
Not what I’m aware of. Strange thing is that every time I post this problem here, it gets fixed all by itself. Today it works again, but was trying to fix it for couple of days with no luck. Then I posted the problem here, and all of a sudden, it started working again. Kind of disturbing that it keeps coming back, I’m not risking a system/website shut down with this issue??

Hi Senad,
First, rest assured that you are not risking any shut downs with this issue. Your site will continue to function without degradation. Given that the issue continues to resolve itself it is clear it’s an environmental issue. You should contact your web host and have them track down why this happens.

Hi Seth,
Thank you for response. Is there something specific in the environment that might cause this? Is there something I can point them to? Not really sure how process of checking software registration works, so don’t know what I should contact them with.
I feel like they’ll just get back to me with standard “contact your software provider as they are the one saying your software isn’t registered”, and from you I’ll get “Contact your web host, it’s environmental issue”…
