When you create a new channel, the channel xml language correctly goes in as en. But if you edit the channel settings - not the ‘edit’ page but the ‘settings’ page- and save it, the xml language field has a value of ‘english’ and that’s what gets saved. And if you use the {channel_language} variable in a feed, it will then throw a validation error.
