EE wraps <p>‘s around new HTML5-tags like <figure>, <figcaption> and others if used inside a «xhtml»-formatted custom field.
It’s CodeIgniter — Add new html5-Tags like “figure|figcaption” to the List @ /system/codeigniter/system/libraries/Typography.php -> Line ~30+32 ($block_elements & $skip_elements)
