Create a second site in MSM. Then configure a subdomain. Follow the steps and copy over index.php and admin.php to the sub site folder.
Then add these settings.
$assign_to_config['site_name'] = 'default_site';
$assign_to_config['cp_url'] = 'http://domain2.com/admin.php';
$assign_to_config['site_url'] = 'http://domain2.com';
Go to your second MSM site through the Control Panel and then click visit site. It does use the settings in the two config files.
If you go to the General Configuration page and change it there, then it works.
Should the settings in the config files not override the Control Panel?
Please see the thread for more details.
