Matrix text cells are supposed to have the same Formatting options that normal Text fields have. To show the available formatting options in the column settings, I just use the $data[‘field_fmt_options’] array that’s passed to Matrix’s display_settings().
On a brand new field, all of the available formatting options are shown, including any custom plugin-based ones.
But when you save the field and come back to it, $data[‘field_fmt_options’] is limited to just the built-in ones.
