Whenever a user enters invalid text into a date field (for example, they type “next week” instead of choosing a date from the calendar), attempting to publish the entry with this data will fail silently.
Specifically, the user is taken to the publish form on clicking submit (rather than the preview page that they would see on a successful sumbission). However, there is nothing on this page to indicate that an error has occurred, and even experienced EE users may often not notice the unexpected behavior unless actively looking for it.
The entry itself is not saved to the database when this happens.
I would strongly expect some sort of error message when an attempt to publish an entry fails.
