Once Channel setup with no Category Adding category later doesn’t show up

I created a new channel but didn’t assign a category to it. After using it for a while I wanted to go back and add a category which I did using.

Admin -> Channel Management -> Edit Group Assignments.

Going back to the Publish and/or the edit page Nothing shows up under Category.
