In the “Flash Data for Redirects” section of http://expressionengine.com/public_beta/docs/development/usage/session.html
it is not stated that flash data only works on the Control Panel side of things. Everything else on that page is usable on the front end, so it needs to be very clear that flash data is for the CP only. This really tripped me up coming from the CI side of things.
