With ExpressionEngine, our training session took no more than 30 minutes, with about 10 minutes going over site and stylistic guidelines. We felt that using a content management system should be unobstructive to the writer’s creative flow and should not require “hand holding” from our developers.

Top Shelf Reggae is an online destination for reggae rock enthusiasts. Our goal is to inform, educate, and inspire in all things reggae rock related. We provide our users with the latest news about reggae rock, while also presenting photos, videos and exclusive interviews from live performances around the nation.

During our initial design and development meetings, we evaluated many content management systems and quickly identified ExpressionEngine as the best solution for our needs. With ExpressionEngine, we were able to assign our many editors and writers to access certain channels, while allowing managers to approve, edit, and publish. The level of granularity on member permissions was a great selling point for us.

Next on our requirement list was overall ease of use for our writers. With ExpressionEngine, our training session took no more than 30 minutes, with about 10 minutes going over site and stylistic guidelines. We felt that using a content management system should be unobstructive to the writer’s creative flow and should not require “hand holding” from our developers.

The flexibility of the templating system was also a huge concern of ours. As we grow, we wanted to make our developers feel right at home without having to dive deep into documentation and tutorials, which in the end would equate to a more substantial bill and an extended launch date.

While we understand the true power of third party add-ons and extensions, we felt the need to truly explore the out-of-the-box power of ExpressionEngine and have kept the build exceedingly minimal.
