Anthony our designer and chief EE developer has been working with EE since version 1.6 and it’s always been his go to CMS when we’ve had the opportunity to be flexible and creative with the design approach.
Run the Wild is an adventure travel company that specialises in creating adventurous trail running holidays for trail and ultra runners. Comprising multi day holidays throughout the UK and Alps the site had to appeal to this type of adventurous, active lifestyle audience. The way we achieved this was by using the great photography from Simon, the company owner, and showing these images off off in as large a format as possible. With the aim of the site being able to be upgraded at a later date to take online payment, we knew Expression Engine was the best choice due to the ease of incorporating an e-commerce system like Cart Throb as well as the rapid design and development time involved in achieving this.
For plugins we used Freeform, Wygwam, Low Variables and CE-Cache. CE Cache we’ve used extensively in the past and have found it exceptionally good at dealing with really high loads on the database. This site didn’t really need it but it’s always great to have the ability to speed up any EE site.
The client wanted the ability to easily edit content and create holidays and so having used Wygwam before, we liked the way it can be locked down and customised for various types of users so that they can’t create ugly looking pages but we can easily turn on various options as they get more comfortable with it.
Anthony our designer and chief EE developer has been working with EE since version 1.6 and it’s always been his go to CMS when we’ve had the opportunity to be flexible and creative with the design approach. The client was pretty design savvy (having designed the company logo himself) and so was great to work with on the creative side as it gave us the flexibility to be creative by knowing whatever design approach we took we’d be able to easily implement it into ExpressionEngine.
from the client “ Pixelwork designed and created a fantastic website for effectively a new market - trail running holidays. All my clients, suppliers and partners compliment the great look and feel of the site. I think the website truly captures the ethos of Run the Wild, a quality brand that is full of energy and very visual, and most importantly inspires visitors to get out trail running on one of our adventures.”
