TinyMCE or other rich text editor

It seems as though there are no current plans for a built-in rich text editor, like TinyMCE (I see the extension.). And from the looks of the boards, there’s no real demand for one.

    Am I the only one?

I listened to the SXSW panel discussion on this topic, but didn’t find to be compelling any of the reasons given for not including this.

I think RTE’s are usually just…bloated…and because they’re easy enough to add via an Extension (probably even easier when 2.0 comes out) that there just should not be a single one installed with the core files.

I agree with that assessment—personally, not speaking for EllisLab here. I have come to like MarkItUp on a few recent projects, and clients seem to like it, too. Otherwise, Textile or Markdown serve my needs.

Ingmar, how do you add markitup? I’ve written an extension that does this (haven’t released it yet, but I’m close), but wasn’t sure if there is already an extension out there!

Ryan, you will be delighted to hear that I have had to hack a few core files so far and am eagerly awaiting you extension 😊

Which will be appreciated by many, I’m sure. And, no, I am not aware of any out there yet.

OK, thanks. It’s not perfect, but it works quite well right now, and you can set different fields to different types (Textile, XHTML, Markdown…as long as you have the correct plugin/parser). I’ll see if I can get my “1.0” version out for others to try/use this week.

I’m just trying to get your “9,999” post count up to 10,000. Congrats on joining that club!

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread…

No worries, just another arbitrary threshold… Although I think we do get a new rank for that, not sure. As you say, back to work. 😊

ETA: W00t! I’m “Professor” now, although you’ll rarely see it, my “Moderator” title covering it up most of the time. (Hm, does that mean I’ve got tenure?)
