    when i make a change to the member preferences (for example, i’m trying to change “require terms of service” to “no”), then click the update button, the changes are not saved.  this is not specific to just that one example.  i’m also not able to enable member photos.

    What version and build are you on? Can you change any other preferences normally?

    ExpressionEngine 1.6.0 / Build:  20070815

    I haven’t tried all preference, but after looking around a little I can see that I can change some preferences, but not others.  For example, on system prefs > general config, I can turn the system off, but I cannot change any of the other preferences on that page.

    Your system is working fine otherwise? Can you post new articles and edit existing ones? What permissions does your config.php file have? Is that a sudden problem? Has it been working fine before? Did you or your host change anything?

    config.php permissions is 666.  Everything is working fine otherwise.  I can’t recall the last time that I’ve updated the preferences, but I’ve never encountered this before.  I’m not aware of any changes the host may have made.  We’re on a dedicated server.

    Hm- I’ve seen some things w/no setting, but don’t recall one exactly like this.  Try this for an experiment- let’s add the tos option to the config.php file- put it in as:

    $conf['require_terms_of_service'] = "y";

    Save- make sure config.php is writable.  OK- can you change the setting now and have it stick?  And if so- go back into config.php, remove the variable- and test again.  Can you flip the setting now?

    Yes, now I can change the TOS pref.  But I still can’t change other preferences, such as “Allow members to set their own localization preferences?” immediately below the TOS pref.

    I suspect maybe that config variable wasn’t in the config file when it flipped everything over to the db.  If you remove the variable from the config- can you still change the tos setting?  If so- sounds like everything is working right.

    Well- except for the ones that don’t work 😉.  But IF the tos works w/it removed from the config, it’s just going to be a matter of adding the ones that don’t work to the config, setting them- and then either remove or don’t as you get the urge.

    Anyhoo- check out removing the tos from config.php.  If that works, I’ll hook you up w/the available overrides.

    Make sense?

    If I remove the TOS option from the config file I can no longer change the TOS preference.

    Hm- that just sounds wrong.  Do you have the MSM installed?  And can you do a quick upgrade- go ahead and get on the latest build.  Let’s see if it still happens.  If so, something odd is going on.

    MSM - multi-site manager?  No, I haven’t installed that.
    I’ll upgrade to the latest build now…

    Let us know if that helps.  If not- will need to dig in a bit.

    I’ve upgraded to the latest build and everything seems to be working now.  Thanks for the help!
