Hi,

In the last few days we’ve started to see a huge list of E notices on our expression engine website which is making updates very difficult.

I’m afraid I’m not a developer so have limited understanding, but can anyone share any light on why this has happened suddenly and how this can be resolved?

Severity: E_NOTICE Notice Trying to access array offset on value of type bool ee/legacy/libraries/Template.php, line xxxx

Thanks, Claire

If you can find out / post which version of EE and which version of php your site is using, it would be easier to give further guidance on what might be going on.

When things ‘start happening’ and you are not aware of doing anything that might have caused it, it is often a sign of changes on your server rather than in your site. So it might be that something has happened on your server environment that is causing the issues - one such change would be if the server environment has changed to use a different version of php (a key bit of server software used by EE).

Updating php to newer versions is something that happens: newer versions have new features and bug / security fixes applied. Not all versions of EE and certainly not all versions of EE Add-ons are happy on all versions of php, and one way this unhappiness is expressed is via the kind of E_Notice things you are seeing.

The good news is that usually these issues can be resolved - either by persuading the server system to go back to using the version of php it was using before, or by updating EE and / or its add-ons to versions that are compatible with the new version of php on your server.

Thank you for the quick and clear reply?

We’re on version 4.3.8 so probably some updating required there, but we’re also updating our server which sounds like it may have had an impact.

Thanks for the thoughts, I’ll go back and see if we can uncover the issue!
