Hi,
You can grab and drag the bottom right corner of the editor and make it as tall as you’d like.
I’ll take the full screen request into consideration. However, I would recommend using a stand alone text editor and save templates as files in order to get the most customizable and feature rich code editor.
The Template manager’s built in editor is meant for making quick and simple changes on the go, not as a replacement for full code editing.
I’m not seeing a Grab option for the Editor window on Mac Chrome (El Capitan). Plus that’s a pain to have to do every time a window reloads.
I agree using the external Template Files option is probably a better - and more professional - option, but when I was a new user (designer not programmer), I found that being able to edit everything from within the CP, was a simpler thing to get my head around.
It would be a shame to confuse new users more than necessary, by constraining one of the most-used elements of the CP interface.

I appreciate your insight, I will definitely consider it when we iterate on the template manager. Thank you!
