    Hi, all. Quick question.

Is it ok/possible to install eecms on a hosting account prior to pointing the DNS? I would like to build the site out before switching the DNS for a seamless transition.

The host will provide an access domain until the domain is pointed… something like 010101.hostingprovider.com

This would be a nice way to get the site built, and get client approval, before making the switch. If you have an alternative process for this I would love to hear it.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

p.s. I did a couple of quick searches here on the forum first, but couldn’t find what I was looking for. Sorry if this question has already been asked. Thanks.

Yes, you can install before pointing DNS. Later you can switch the website by updating setting for site URL and directory path.

    Best Regards,

I have found that doing the install on the server and then modifying the hosts file to fool your development machine to point at the server for the final domain name works best. That way all the URLs and paths etc are set correctly in the database and config files which makes the launch that little bit smoother.

    Hope it helps!
