    Hello. I am currently managing a website for a customer. The site has a member section for the board of directors which is accessed via this link: http://www.internationalcenter.org/index.php/board/

    TEMP CREDENTIALS:
    username: board.member
    password: b0@rd123

    When logging in the site informs me that it’s offline. But when I log in with my super-admin credentials it works just fine. Can someone tell me how to turn this member section back on?

    Thanks!

    SuperAdmins can always view the site when logged in, even if the site is offline.  Member Groups by default cannot.  So, your site is either offline and should not be OR you need to go into Admin => Member Groups and edit the member group so it can view the site offline.

    Well, the site itself is still online. But the Board of Directors member section is off. Is there a way to turn on/off a specific section of the site?

    I didn’t think there was which is why I’m confused.

    Thanks!

    You checked until the Admin->General Settings for each site in your EE installation?  Because the EE “This site is currently offline” message is usually site-wide.

    There’s only one site installation and it’s set to ‘yes’ under ‘Is system on?’. I’m only getting the ‘offline’ message when I access the restricted member section using member credentials. I can view the rest of the site normally.

    Ah, then it is likely because your Forum Board is disabled.  Go into your Addons->Modules->Forum area, find your forum board, and change the “Enable Forum Board” to Yes.

    It’s not using the forum module. It’s a password protected template using the login_form tag.

    {exp:member:login_form return="board/index" name="memberLogin"}
    <fieldset><label for="username">Username </label><input type="text" id="username" name="username" value="" />
    <label for="password">Password </label><input type="password" id="password" name="password"  value="" /></fieldset>
    <input name="submit" id="submit" class="submitButton" type='submit' value='sign in' />
      <a href="http://{path=member/forgot_password}">Forgot your password?</a>
    <div class="clear"></div>
    {/exp:member:login_form}

    Yes, then I am confused as well.  As completely turning the site offline OR having a forum board offline is the only two ways I know for sure trigger that System Offline page.  One can look at other pages on the site when logged in but not as a SuperAdmin?

    The only instance for which a site visitor would log in would be to access the content associated with that particular template. After logging in a non-Super Admin receives the ‘site offline’ message with no other links. However the rest of the website is online and works just fine for non-Super Admins.

    What’s fascinating to me is that if one is NOT logged in as that user, the site is visible.  Once you log in though, the site goes offline.  Just for the sake of testing, I suggest going into the Member Group for the user and setting it so they can see the site offline.  Also, you might look at the config.php file and insure someone has not hardcoded in variable to set the site offline.  It is the only thing I can think of.

    These two settings, check for the Member Group.

    Something like this just happened to me and it was the member group settings.  It’s not clear from your exchange with Paul if you checked that. This is what was wrong when it happened to me:

    Members -> Member Groups -> Edit Group -> Site Access -> “Can view site when it is online”

    That should be set to “yes”.

    Just realized this is the EE1 forum - that navigation path is from EE2, it may be a little different in EE1.

    Okay, this is driving me bonkers. There’s no actual Member Group associated with the credentials used to log into that section. There are three super admins, an admin for the weblogs for that template, and an admin for weblogs on another template and that’s it.

    So there’s no Forum module running this section and there’s no Member Group assigned to user ‘board.member.’ What am I missing?

    It would be quite remarkable (impossible?) to have a member without a member group in EE. Does this member not show up in the “view members” screen?  There is a column for member group.  Is that empty?
