i just migrated a site to another server. The home page loads just fine and the CP loads just fine but when i click on a link i get this error:

    Not Found

The requested URL /deyasglutenfree/about was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

it works perfectly on the old server. I went through and reset all these to the correct path:

    Admin ‣ General Configuration
Admin ‣ Security and Privacy ‣ Captcha Preferences
Admin ‣ System Administration ‣ Emoticon Preferences
Content ‣ Files ‣ File Upload Preferences
    Members ‣ Preferences
Design ‣ Templates ‣ Global Preferences
Admin ‣ Channel Administration ‣ Channels

I also tried getting ride of the .htaccess file and that had no effect. If i type manualy into the url /deyasglutenfree/index.php/about than it works. Can not figure out what is causing this? As i said i erased the .htaccess file all together and it had no effect.

I have just found that if i get ride of the htaccess file than the error changes a little. With the htaccess file in place i get this error:

        Not Found

The requested URL /deyasglutenfree/about was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

And when i get ride of the htaccess file i only get this:

        Not Found

The requested URL /deyasglutenfree/about was not found on this server.

    Hi Tierra Interactive,

So when you remove the .htaccess and type in /deyasglutenfree/index.php/about, that works? It sounds to me like your new server just has some different settings in terms of its .htaccess rules and what it will and will not allow. Has the URL changed when you changed servers or is it still the same? If it’s the same and the .htaccess worked on the former server but not this one, I’d recommend checking with your host or your sysadmin to see what might be blocking the .htaccess on the new server.

Your almost there but not quite. With or without the htaccess file, if i type in the full url with index.php in it than it finds the page. But if i click on a link the page is not found. Again that is with or without the htaccess file. The only behavior that changes with the htaccess file is the error message. Do you still think it has to do with the server settings?

I just spoke with a tech from my server and he said that the folders are just not being found. So it must be a setting in the CP that im missing but i went through all the Expression engine checklist?

also we have several other EE sites setup on this server that work well with the htaccess file. So im guessing it is not the server settings.

Also, a lot of the css is broken within the site

Hello PROBLEM SOLVED. IT was the htaccess file, just not sure exactly what. I replaced the htaccess file with a much simpler htaccess file and it works!

htaccess can just be a bear sometimes.  Love it though I do when it works!  Glad you got it squared away, and thanks for letting us know the solution.  Anything else crops up, post back and we’ll take a look!
