This question may be related to a resolved thread.

When I try to update my IP2Nation database, it gets stuck on this step “Downloaded IP Database. Unpacking ...”  I have tried clearing caches, uninstalling and reinstalling the module and trying again.  Also I contacted my host and they confirm that my PHP install does have Zip enabled.

    Version & Notes: EE v2.5.3 - Build: 20120911 / Forum 3.1.9 / MSM 2.1.4 / Removed index.php

    Hi Kaori,

Could you check with your host to see if there’s anything being posted to the server error logs when you attempt to update this module? I suspect there’s a PHP function that’s being blocked by the server, but the error is being hidden from the browser since IP to Nation downloads the necessary data using an AJAX request.

Let me know what that error log tells us!

I received the following reply from my host:

Thanks for providing the steps. I could replicate the issue after clicking on “Update”. In the logs, found the following error :
[11-Oct-2012 09:37:45 UTC] PHP Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 12788717 bytes) in /home/user/public_html/system/expressionengine/modules/ip_to_nation/mcp.ip_to_nation.php on line 368

I have increased the php memory_limit for mydomain.com to 128MB and it seems to have fixed the issue. I got the message :
Unpacked IP Database. Inserting data ...

    ——
I tried updating myself as well and it stays at

“Unpacked IP Database. Inserting data ...”

I get no other text or confirmation.

    Hello,

Does anyone has any idea what the problem might be?

Sorry to keep bumping this but, I have an open support ticket at my host regarding this issue and we are waiting for an answer from the EE team.

Sorry this is proving such a bear.  I’m thinking the best way to resolve this for you is to go in and take a closer look.  I’ve dropped you an email with some details on that.  I think the fist thing we’ll want to do is track down where it fails.  Looks like it’s successfully pulling the files down, so we’ll want to make sure they’re unzipping ok.  Sounds like they should be.

In any case- keep an eye open for that email!

Just posting a note here to let onlookers know that we’re working with Kaori privately on this for the time being. I’ll post an update back here once we have something to share!

Since it might help others, posting details here.  There was a bug, where the update date didn’t get updated.  I fixed that up on both your install and for the next release (fix in tracker).  But I think the main problem was simply that update?  Can take a pretty long time.  You sort of need to sit there and let it run even when you think it should be done.

If you’re not sure what’s happening in the future, I tend to open FireBug and watch the JS in the console so that I know for sure it’s still doing it’s thing.

So yes- you just needed to give it more time and I think it would have finished up properly.  But the update date not getting updated would not have helped you know it worked!

You may want to try it again, just to be sure all is working well for you.  But if you do?  Give it a good 5 minutes before you start getting worried.
