    After failing to upgrade from 2.1.1 to 2.5.3 I tried to restore my backup. But after putting all the backup files back on the server, changing the necessary permissions, cleared my database and imported the backup db, I was unable to see my website or get in to the control panel (white screens)

    I turned on debugging and got the following message:

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

    Message: Use of undefined constant AJAX_REQUEST - assumed ‘AJAX_REQUEST’

    Filename: core/EE_Exceptions.php

    Line Number: 62
    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Notice

    Message: Trying to get property of non-object

    Filename: core/EE_Exceptions.php

    Line Number: 64

    I tried uploading the backup files via another ftp client, but that didn’t help. I’m stuck and the website needs to be up and running as soon as possible!

    I inserted

    echo($message);

    onto line 60 of /system/expressionengine/core/EE_Exceptions.php

    and that gave the following message:

    Unable to load your default controller. Please make sure the controller specified in your Routes.php file is valid.

    I checked my routes.php file and there it says:

    $route['default_controller'] = "ee/index";

    Which seems to me is fine.. stuck again. Anyone?

    Problem solved… it seems while backing up, the name of the controllers folder was changed.

    Still I’m unable to upgrade to 2.5.3 from 2.1.1, but at least the site is live again.

    I’m glad to see you were able to get back to good shape after restoring! Can we help you with that update now?

    What problems were you having getting updated from 2.1.1 to 2.5.3?
