Issue viewing FILE fieldtype values on frontend for certain member groups since 2.5.3 upgrade (MSM)

We have a member group with no control panel access to any of our MSM sites which was created for the sole purpose of giving only them access to view content on the frontend of a certain MSM site using ‘conditionals/member group id’ in the templates. After upgrading from 2.5.1 to 2.5.3 this group can no longer see File fieldtype values on the front end of this MSM site. These fields show up blank. Admin member groups can still see the file fieldtype values. And if I take the conditional out of the template and logout of EE the file fieldtype shows up for everyone. But if the mentioned member group is still logged into EE and I remove the conditional the File fieldtypes still do not show on frontend.

The only workaround I have found is to give this member group file upload privileges to the file directories created in the file manager that are used by the file fieldtypes for this MSM site. They still have no control panel access for this site but editing the upload privileges does the trick though it doesn’t make sense being that should only give them access to upload to the directory. It should not affect whether they can see the file fieldtype value on the frontend.

Anyone else seen this issue after upgrading? Any solutions?

    Hi USG IWS,

I’m sorry you’ve run into this after your update!

Have you ran a Sync operation on the affected upload destinations?

    Agreed, that is odd.

Can you show the template code you are using?

    Cheers,
