On my -view all- members screen the Screen Names doesn’t display ÅÄÖ. Any ideas why this is so?

    See attached screenshot.

    EE: 2.1.3

    Thanks

    Hi esset,

Thanks for providing the screen shot, that really is helpful!

I’ve got a few questions to start troubleshooting.

Was this an upgrade from ExpressionEngine 1.x? Is this site using a Language Pack or is the content store in a non-English language? Is this a recent issue, or has it been noticed for a while? Did you install any new add-ons recently?

Did you recently move servers or hosts? Has you host conducted any upgrades to PHP or MySQL?

The root problem is likely UTF-8 encoding trouble, but we need to find the trigger.

Thanks! And I look forward to hearing back!

    Cheers,

Hi Dan. Here’s your answers 😊

Was this an upgrade from ExpressionEngine 1.x?
    No. Clean EE2.x installation.

Is this site using a Language Pack or is the content store in a non-English language?
No extra language pack, using the standard “english” version.

Is this a recent issue, or has it been noticed for a while?
It’s been like this since launch. So from day 1.

Did you install any new add-ons recently?
    No, not really.

Did you recently move servers or hosts? Has you host conducted any upgrades to PHP or MySQL?
No new host, same as always. Don’t think there’s been any upgrades - we usually get a message when they do these things.

I just created a new member (see screenshots below). Watch the different screens. I’ve never seen this on a site before.

    Thank you

    Hi esset,

I’d like to get us in there for a closer look. I will caution that part of the solution may be an update to the latest version of ExpressionEngine 2.x

2.1.3 is a long way from being current 😉

Be on the lookout for an email from EliisLab!

    Hi Dan,

I’m a little scared letting you guys in b/c I’ve hacked a few core files on this site and it’s running a live custom e-commerce solution for my client. Maybe I should try and update the site myself first and see if it fixes the issue.

Do you think I can (as a first step) just update the JS files/library and see if it’s the jquery table sort function that creates the wrong output? If so what files specific do I need to swap? Thanks 😊

Removed - thought the OP had updated to the current version. Will repost as a new issue.

    Hi esset,

    Ah… a custom job - yeah.

Do you think I can (as a first step) just update the JS files/library and see if it’s the jquery table sort function that creates the wrong output? If so what files specific do I need to swap? Thanks 😊

That would probably create more trouble. So much has changed - even the folder structure - for themes and JS since 2.1.3 that it would 99% break.

I don’t envy you for needing to update. One last thing to check. Have you gotten into the database to see how these values are being stored? Are they just as odd there?

    Cheers,
