Can I manually change the template_group/template used before parsing?

I have an add-on I’m creating in which I need to set the template_group/template that’s suppose to be used - before parsing.

Can I do this?

If so can anyone point me in the right direction on where I can get some more info? (if I need to look at EE code, or if it’s in the docs).
