    Hi,

this dovetails with an earlier question but basically, I understand that to associate content/answers with a “client”, the client can be converted to a “member” and the member Id is the key to that client’s data.

On this basis, when someone goes through a process of becoming a client (and therefore a site member), can the process of creating the new member be done as part of the sign-up process (whatever that might end up being)? IOW, EE provides some way (configuration or programatically) of doing this as opposed to a site-admin have to manually convert a “guest” to a “member”.

Also, how restricted can this class of member be? The only requirement would be for them to see what we have deemed to be their “own” data.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Gazley,

Indeed. Creating a member is all part of the registration process, if you want it to be. ExpressionEngine provides for this out of the box, but you can customize the experience with something like Freemember.

You have control over the group they are assigned to, and you can set permissions on that group so that members can only see or access what you want them to.

Registration can be automatic activation, activation via an email to the registrant or activated by an admin after notification - completely your call.

Thanks for all your great questions!

    Cheers,
