    Hi Tony,

Updating Forum is what you need to do. Since you are running ExpressionEngine 2.4, the compatible version of Forum is 3.1.7. So in effect, still running Forum 3.1.6 *is* the bug 😉

For future reference, anytime you update ExpressionEngine, make sure to update Discussion Forum and MSM as well. Essentially, the current releases are only compatible with each other.

    Cheers,

    hello DAN DECKER

that makes little sense.  well ok it makes a little bit of sense.

are u saying i experienced this bug purely because of the 3.1.6 install?

    Hey Tony,

Dan is saying that the two version are incompatible. So in a way you could call that a bug, but not really.

It’s just best to update everything when you update ExpressionEngine. Discussion forum, Add-Ons, MSM if you use, etc.

    Does that make sense?

    Cheers,

well forum v 3.1.6 works fine with 2.4 except so far for the search bug   mentioned.  So incompatible is a bit strong.

Plus the versioning in that case is poor, as 3.1.7 is one very minor point up from 3.1.6.  It is not usual in the industry to have something be “incompatible”  for a minor
    version point.

Im being pedantic about this for 2 reasons.

    1.  I want to be clear on what you are telling me, and that my points above are invalid.

    2. the problem is not fixed by upgrading to 3.1.7

    Tony,

I’m sorry you’re having this frustration. The way that ExpressionEngine works with the forum and MSM add-ons requires that they be updated together. Once you’ve done the update, if you are still experiencing this problem with your forums we’ll be able to help you troubleshoot.

Once you’ve upgraded the forum module let us know if you still need assistance.

    Sean.

    Hey Tony,

I apologize for the confusion regarding our versioning scheme. Now that you are all up-to-date on compatible versions, let’s get to the heart of the issue.

Is “video” the only word that causes your forum search to explode? Do any other keywords trigger the error?

What forum theme are you using? Are you running your forum through regular templates or any other special settings?

    Cheers,

any search term seems to cause a problem.

there is nothing special about my install.

interestingly though i searched for tape logged out and it worked.

i then loggen in as admin and searched for tape and it exploded.

    any insite DAN DECKER?

    Hey Tony,

Your first name demands a mobster/Jersey accent, but that is harder to present across the internet.

BTW, your use of my name has become standard procedure at the EllisLab Complex. It’s awesome!

So, we might need to get a closer look at this. Be looking for an email from us.

One question, after you updated the Forum files, did you run the update under Add-ons->Modules: Run Module Updates?

    Cheers!
