I’m not sure if this is the proper forum for this, but I had a client ask about getting a bilingual forum where user could alternate between French and English and user generated posts could be translated by the admin and added in the control panel.

I’ve build many bilingual websites using an excellent module: http://www.putyourlightson.net/multi-language-module

But I can’t think of any way to make the forum have the same basic concept of language toggle, and templates that swap custom fields or phrase tags.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Hello kyleracki,

You are indeed in the correct forum.

The forum module is quite separate from the rest of ExpressionEngine in regards to language, and so a language add-on like Transcribe or the Mult-Language Module are not going to effect the language the forums display.

Short of using something like Google Auto Translation, I am not sure of how to accomplish this.

I can move this to the community forum to see if anyone else has any ideas if you would like.

I am sorry I could not be of more help here.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

    Cheers,

    Hi Shane,

    Thanks for your reply.

And keep in mind, I’m not asking if the forum can be auto-translated or for users to enter translated content into a separate field, what I’m wondering is, can the actual forum template (buttons, links, forms etc.) be translated and have two distinct forums - one french, one english with it’s own separate, unrelated content.

So in a scenario, if the user foes to Forum A which is called French - it has a french interface but if they load Forum B English - all interface/template elements are English. The content remains up to the user to input in whatever language. Does that make sense?

If you could move it into the community for feedback, that would be appreciated.
