    Hi all,
As part of a redesign, we’re going to be overhauling the Channel structure of one of our projects. We’ll need to combine the Entries in three Channels into a single new one. Currently, all of the channels share the same Field, Category and Status groups. And, the new Channel will share those groups as well.

I’m sure I can do it by modifying the database directly, but I am trying to avoid that.

Can anyone recommend another good way to tackle this?

    Thanks!

If channels share field groups you should be able to do it from the Edit interface, but it would be entry by entry.

    Hi Michael,
Thanks for the note. Unfortunately, we’re looking at a few thousand entries which makes one by one a bit too slow.

I’m thinking direct manipulation in the database will be the best route. From what I can see it’s only a few tables and should be pretty straightforward SQL.

We first have to upgrade from EE 1.7 to 2.3 though, so we have our work cut out for us either way.

Thanks again for the response. If you have any other suggestions or ideas, let me know.

    Greg,

There is no way out of the box to do batch entry migration. Your plan to use a sql query is probably the best option. If you would like I could move this thread to commmunity support to see if anyone else has other ideas to help.

OK, thanks Sean. If you can move it to community support that’d be great. I’ll report back on how things go.
