I have a text input field with the short name, “research_title”, not that that really matters, but it’s really weird this title:

“API (Buy; $2.40): In line Q1 results; reducing FY12 estimate while maintaining FY13 estimate; reducing target to $2.40 from $2.55; reiterate buy”

makes the field return null, but if I change the text “reiterate” to anything else, like random text or a random word, it works. Is there something weird going on with those semi-colons and parenthesis? Actually, I just tested it again and took out a few semi-colons and it works.

What version and build of EE are you using?
Are you using any add-ons?

If you make that text input a text area does the same issue persist?
What formatting do you have set for that field?

Goto your Channel Preferences and under Channel Posting Preferences what is set for Default HTML formatting in channel entries?

I have a ton of add-ons installed, but this is just a generic text input field. Fieldtype add-ons, include: P&T Field Pack, Playa, Expresso, Assets, and Google Maps for ExpressionEngine

Yes, the problem persists when it’s a textarea field.

Default HTML formatting: Allow all HTML, Yes and Yes. Problem persists when set to: Convert HTML to HTML entities, No, No

Can you talk to your host and see if you have any mod_security setup going on?  That is a very typical issue when content gets blocked in the way you’re describing.  You may need to ask them to exempt your account from that module.
