    hey there—

i developed my own site a while back on EE (currently running 1.6.4).

have been working with drupal recently, and like the way drupal handles taxonomy.

one of the things i did not care for with EE (as of 1.6.4) is that the “categories” are all in one, lump list.  it makes classifying content cumbersome, as not all content types/weblogs would need the same category sets.  i’d like to be able to create sets of category tags that appear for certain weblogs and not for others.

is this possible in the latest version of EE?  how is the latest version handling taxonomy?

also—i probably could use some assistance in upgrading from 1.6.4 to the latest EE.  where can i get some assistance for that?

    thanks in advance—

    Hi, halloweencat.

I’d upgrade in stages. Go to 1.7.1 first, make sure that works then go to 2.2.2.

You can already create multiple category groups, and assign them to channels.

    sue, heya—

unless i’m not getting something, channels in EE are like blocks in drupal.

my issue is with categories, i suppose.  i know i can create various category groups and put different items within each, but with the version of EE i’ve been running, all those category groups show up in one big list.  it’s really cumbersome to work with, when one only might need some category groups and not others.  it would be great if one could say, “show this category group and make it a dropdown,” “show this other category group and make it a scrollbox.”

    am i missing something?

    thanks and cheers—

You may want to have a look at the Taxonomy addon or Structure (my personal favourite) addon as well.

    Thanks for the assist, Steven.

halloweencat, there are changes to EE2.2.2 that make it easier to work with categories. Let’s show you a quick screen shot.

See how you can now just check the categories? Much better interface.

    heya guys—

all this is very useful; i thank you.

question:  i didn’t see any links to 1.7 (since we’re now up to 2.x)... how do i go about upgrading if 1.7 isn’t offered anymore?

    cheers—
