    Question / Disaster Check:

I’m ready to upgrade a client site with a Discussion Forum Module from EE 1.6.5 to EE 2.1.3. I’ve successfully upgraded other sites previously from EE 1.x to 2.x, but never with the Discussion Forum Module.

Here’s the deal: I’ve customized (altered) the Developer theme templates in my client’s Discussion Forum and obviously would like to keep that theme. My assumption is that I want to backup the Developer theme folder (or rename it) and then drop it back into the themes/forum_themes folder once I’ve upgraded to EE 2.x and also upgraded to the newest version of the Discussion Forum Module.

Is this correct or am I making this too complicated? I just want to go into this with my eyes open and not get a big surprise on the back end.

Any help from anyone who’s upgraded a custom-themed Discussion Forum Module while upgrading from EE 1.x to 2.x would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I’ve not upgraded a forum template and I’m not sure of any changes in forum templates so you’d need to chacek the Changelog - http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/changelog.html, but here’s a few suggestions:

    - set up a development install to test
    - copy the whole site + db to the test location
    - don’t upload the 2.x Developer theme templates, use your old 1.6 version instead
    - run the upgrade and then test the Developer running under 2.x to see if there are any issues
    - if all is well then you should be fine to update the live site, if you get errors etc then you’ll need to compare old/new to see any chnages you need to make

    Andy,

On this particular page for version notes there is a standalone script utility available for download which may help your conversion process. Keep backups of your theme though and doing this locally is a good idea

    John,

This is exactly what I was looking for - just missed it. Thanks for pointing out. This should do the trick.

    Thanks again!
