Seems like all I’ve heard so far this year about SXSW is why people aren’t going or why it’s past it’s time. Nevertheless, it’s on my schedule this year, partly for the chance to visit friends who coincidentally live in Austin and partly to flee for a warmer climate after 6 rainy months in Seattle. It’s still cheap enough to afford a little workation.

The parties are emotionally taxing for a bunch of introverts. All the networking and phony smiles and really any groups of more than 3 or 4 people can start to feel like too much for me, like repeating the same little tidbit over and over. However, I feel really fortunate to have transcended some of that surface level stuff at EECI SF or the Seattle Roadshow, or some of the SXSW events from past years, or even through some actual client projects. The best experiences have been either those real projects or little side conversations with other under the radar freelancers and the rare times when chit-chat turns to inspiring moments of professional camaraderie.

It would be great to have a chance to sit down in some small groups with laptops & food or drink and share some work or different tools you use or demos of your EE configurations or maybe even make something together over the course of the weekend. Even better would be the chance to meet up with EllisLab folks or Add-On developers and talk about where EE is going, what our clients are saying and how we can help it thrive.

    Any takers?

yep let’s set aside 2 hours, from 12pm - 2pm on monday the 14th. any ideas on where we can meet?

  • #5 / Mar 07, 2011 8:30am

Sounds cool. I’ll put it on my calendar. Keep us posted about location.

Seamus mentioned tacos… there’s always Iron Cactus. They have good Mexican.

This is a fabulous idea. I’m all for a small group where we can actually discuss ideas.

Happy to put this on our calendar as well. Tacos sound divine.

(Incidentally, I’m looking forward to not being in Seattle for a bit as well. I’m ready for something resembling Spring.)

great, looking forward to meeting you leslie and hopefully some other ellis lab team members.

lets say we all meet at the Iron Cactus as suggested by jeremy from 12pm, unless anyone has any objections… there are talks from 11pm - 12pm so gives people time to cover the 1 minute walk

I’m not sure if Iron Cactus has wifi, or we can get away with tethering. either way, looking forward to laptops, tacos and nerds.

Doesn’t everyone dev locally anyway? 😛

I don’t see anything on their site about WiFi.. I do have a mobile hotspot if we’re left completely defenseless.

hey everyone, unfortunately the Iron Cactus is closed today between 12 and 2, so last minute change of venue to The Old Pecan St Cafe just a few doors down at 504 B Trinity St. hope you all get this in time and see you there at 12.
