I’ve installed EE 2 on different hosting servers, but this is the first time I’ve encountered this message and been unable to get past it to run the installer.

All the files and folders have the correct permissions, and I am accessing the system folder rather than the root (which was suggested in my search for solutions).

I do not know what to do to get it to run the installer. Here is what I’ve done so far:

    1. Downloaded and unzipped the EE 2 package.
    2. Renamed the system folder and updated the index.php file accordingly.
    3. Uploaded everything.
    4. Checked permissions.
    5. Attempted to access http://www.mysite.com/renamedsystemfolder
    6. Got this message: “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.”

So I deleted the folder and started from scratch.

    1. Unzipped the EE2 package again.
    2. Didn’t rename it.
    3. Uploaded system folder.
    4. Checked permissions.
    5. Attempted to access http://www.mysite.com/system
    6. Got this message: “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.”

    Help please!

Additional information: I took my Freelancer License 2.1.1 and uploaded the system folder. Accessed the system folder and the installer came up with no problem.

Is there a glitch in 2.1.3 commercial? I set debug=1 on the commercial setup and got this error:

    “unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or ‘}’” on line 45 of the core/Install_config.php file.

Hi, jh40952 - welcome to the forums!

First, can I ask you to upload the server check wizard and find out what version of PHP you are on, and if all of the other checks pass?

It also sounds like there may have been some glitches with the file upload process for the commercial version.  Commercial and Freelancer are essentially the same - the difference is in some modules that the commercial license includes, but Freelancer does not.  That you uploaded fresh files and the installer came up points to some truncated files in your FTP process.  What FTP program are you using?

    Thank you!

I am having the same issue trying to install 2.0.3

Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.

I reverted back to my freelancer and now it’s no longer working either..

    polivares,

    Welcome to the forums 😊

Can you explain specifically what you have already attempted in detail please?
Were you trying an upgrade of an older Freelancer version to Freelancer EE2.1.3?
Were you trying an upgrade to Commercial EE2.1.3 from Freelancer?

Can you please give us your current version and build?
What specific page of our User Guide are you following?

Hi there, and thank you for your response.. i actually solved my issue.. I had accidentally deleted two files on my root “session data” and “uploadtemp” it took me two days to realize that was my issue. So maybe make a note for other folks who may ahve the ame problem..

on another note, I have two sites setup on MSM, but my second site is not being found. Is the idea that each folder of templates should have a “default_files” sub folder in order for this too work?

    Hi Polivares,

Glad you got that working out for you.

The new site setup for the MSM should explain the correct usage for you 😊
