Can't Add a Banned IP Address

    Hi there,

I try to add an IP address to the “Banned IP Address” area on the User Banning page. But every time I click the Update button, it just returns to the old list of Banned IP Adresses without my recently addedd one. My addition doesn’t seem to “stick”.

I CAN add e-mail addresses and restricted User/Screen Names to the User Banning, though, but not IP Addresses.

    Why? What is wrong?

Would be grateful for an answer,

    mWall,

I can’t replicate on most recent version. Is that version in your config current? If so can you update to most recent version (EE2.1.3) and see if issue persists please?

    Hi John Henry,

Sorry for not answering immediately. We didn’t have time to do an update until today, so I waited to get back to you when we could track down the problem properly.

The stated problem remains in the latest version. I enter an IP address but it doesn’t “take” after updating the page. At least I can’t see it in the list of Banned IP Adresses.

    What to do?

Is it a full IP address, or a partial one?

    Full IP address.

EDIT: I also tried a partial IP address – with the same result. It’s like water off a duck’s back trying to ban an IP address.

I can’t replicate it either.. used

    115.108.37.143

and saved it. It’s the only item in my blacklist, and I wasn’t saving to .htaccess..

Any sort of third party add-ons?

I tried the same IP address you used – no change.

Third-Party Add-ons? Only the usual ones (Freeform, Low NoSpam, Barricade, Feetnotes), none of which I believe would influence this behavior.

    Hi mWall,

Which CP theme are you using and did you update the themes folder when upgrading?

    Cheers

We use the standard CP theme. If the themes folder is included in the normal update procedure, then we did upgrade it. (I didn’t do the actual update. All I know for sure is we don’t use any other CP theme than the standard one).

    Hi mWall,

I’m afraid that I can’t replicate this with version 2.1.3 and Barricade installed. Can you please refresh your themes folder from a 2.1.3 download (making sure to backup any 3rd party theme folders or files).

    Cheers

    Greg

    Is the .htaccess file writable?

It has 644 rights. Isn’t that what it should have?

I don’t know if this is a subject for a new thread or if it adds to (or complicates) the picture. But on the same Banning page, you have the option of also banning e-mail addresses. I have *@yahoo.co.uk banned, because we get a lot of member spamming from there. But still spammers with this e-mail address can register as members. How is this even possible?!?

644 is probably not sufficient. Can you try 666?
