    Hi!

    Using the File Manager, in the Edit File Upload Preferences tab, we can easily set which groups of users can upload files to a certain upload destination. But is there a way to restrict the downloads as well?

    I would like to put some files on the server but make them available to download to certain groups only.

    Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

    I’d recommend the low-tech approach and in your template hide or show dependant on member group id.

    {if group_id == "2|4"}
    Show links here
    {if:else}
    You need to be in member group 2 or 4 to view these files
    {/if}

    Thanks for the tip! The problem is, I don’t want people to access the files directly by entering the address in the browser. Is there a way to block the folder completely except for a certain group of users?

    From my understanding, you’ll need an extension/module to accomplish that, like this one:

    Thanks for the assist, Cheif.

    Unfortunately, LinkLocker hasn’t been updated for EE2.1 yet. You could look at Devot-ee.com for any additional third party offerings.
