I’m building a website for a musician who would like to offer extra content to fans who have purchased his music.

As far as I can tell, this won’t be a problem for members who purchase a product on his site using the simple commerce module - they can automatically be assigned to a new member group which will have access to certain pages. Is this correct?

The problem is that many fans will purchase his music on iTunes, Amazon etc and he wants a way to give them access to the extra content on his site. Is there any way for members to be automatically added to a new member group by entering a special code?

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated!

I presume the special code would be the same for everyone? It would require a custom query, if you want to do it automatically. You’d have to build a form, check against the “secret” word and then move the logged_in member_id to a different group. Makes sense? Not too difficult, but would require a bit of custom coding, an SQL query perhaps.

Thanks for the reply, Ingmar. Yes, the code will be the same for everyone and your suggestion sounds like it will do what I need. I know virtually nothing about php and/or queries, but I’ll study the documentation and see if I can figure it out. 😊
