If you Google “quit sugar” my website http://www.vanadia.com/stopbeingsweet used to be number one. And it still is, sort of…

Now it shows http://www.vanadia.com/p10 which is nothing. There is no such page. The content is showing something from the correct blog, but from an old post.

I’ve been working on the site lately and fear I did something to mess it up. Any ideas as to what happened?

    xmo1,

It looks like Google has indexed one of your paginated pages.

You can use all the standard methods to let Google know what you want to index or not.

Sign up for Webmaster Tools and make use of a Google sitemap and also the robots.txt

So to answer your question. No, you haven’t messed anything up. I am going to move this post to the How to forum though as its more appropriate there.

How do I prevent it from spidering a paginated page?

you could declare a canonical link for that template pointing to the head of the article list (no pagination), but the pages aren’t duplicate content so this might be frowned upon.

you could conditionally use a <META NAME=“ROBOTS” CONTENT=“NOINDEX, FOLLOW”> tag… just check for whether the segment containing the P## exists because you don’t want to NOINDEX your main page.
