Is there a limit to the number of MSM sites you can run from a single install? Is there a recommended limit? I quickly searched the forum but couldn’t find any recommendations.
Thanks in advance.

Licensing issues aside, we recommend the number of sites not to exceed 70+ sites. This is not a hard limit, but it all becomes a bit unwieldy after that. How many sites are you interested in running?

We don’t have a hard number. We have 19 sites now and I could see us adding another dozen over the next year. I don’t think we’re in danger of hitting that 70 site limit.

Yes, you should be good to go there 😊

You have 19 sites on EE MSM now, or planning, too?

Ingmar’s right, except that it can get a bit unwieldy before 70 sites. That’s just a lot of complexity in one control panel. I have one set up with half a dozen sites on a single EE install and it works fine—except all those weblogs, member groups, template_groups, and templates can get complicated.

Yikes! I would hate to have that many sites go down at the same time if something went wrong.
I think the more important limitation to consider is that of mysql.
See this thread here.

That was changed considerably in a recent update and had more to do with the number of custom fields, not the number of Sites.
