Do you see how the second comment is outside of the white field?

What did I break and how do I fix it?  I’ve combed over my comments template and every div has a /div so I wonder if I put something in the wrong place or if it’s a stylesheet screw-up.

The link you gave is broken correct link here.

You’ve got a closing div between your first comment and second comment. My guess is that the closing div is inside the exp:comments tag loop. Moving it outside the closing tag should help.

If that doesn’t work, could you post your comments template (only the relevant area).

Yep.  I moved one tag outside and they’re stacking correctly now.  Now I can stop fiddling with the site for the weekend and move on to other tedious tasks.
