Hi, thanks for the reply to my previous. I’ve spent all the time I have in the documentation and forums, but still have some further questions about EE. Thanks in advance for any help!

1. When looking at SEO, I’m wondering if there’s any articles/explanations on how EE supports SEO. All searches for SEO on the EE site come up with no matches. I found a few entries in the forums about bits and pieces, but I guess I’m looking for a guide, which would be a fairly logical thing to have.

2. Again about SEO, I noticed that you need to select a reserved word when adding categories to the url (sorry, now that I need to reference it, I can’t find which admin screen that was). It would probably be better for SEO to pull the category name into the url instead of assigning a word. Is that doable?

1. How about Media Cow’s guide to SEO?  Also, the URLs are friendly, so really what matters next is content, and that is in your hands. =)

2.  The way the category word works is that you get the category trigger and then the category name, that tells EE that it is a category URL and not, say, a single-entry page.  This is SEO friendly and won’t cause any search engine issues.

Thanks for your response Lisa. The first article was interesting but I already knew I needed a sitemap - everyone does, right? 😊

On the second point, are you saying that when EE delivers a URL, it will put the name of the category/subcategory in the url? From the control panel, I was assuming that I’d just see /thereservedword)/contentname, which was a concern, but from what you’re saying, I’ll see /thereservedword)/categoryname/contentname.

Please let me know if I’m on or off target with my guess?

Yes, the way it works is like so:

example.com/index.php/template-group/template-name/reserved-word/category-url-title

Or say:

example.com/site/index/category/cats-and-dogs/  <- my favorite subject, sorry. =)

You won’t get category/subcategory, just the actual category you’re viewing.

yes, thanks! I’m inquiring with some devs about having a couple of custom plugins made to expand EE to where it will fill the bill, so I’ll ask about pulling subcats and tags into the nav as well. The engine doesn’t have to do it, but the navigation should in order to maximize the SE rating, if I’m not mistaken.
