    ExpressionEngine v2.5.0 - Build Date: 20120507

    For some reason this week it takes about 60 to 70 seconds for any control panel page to load.  During the time when it’s trying to load the page it prevents you from browsing the website that the content management server is serving up.  It doesn’t prevent any other clients from viewing the site that the content management server is serving up.  Just the client that is using the control panel.

    We notice on our firewall that each time a control panel page is loading that the server sends requests out to the internet over port 443 and port 8080.  We noticed that back in the summer when we replaced our firewall and the firewall was blocking those requests and the control panel was slow then also.  Once we allowed it out the firewall the control panel page load speeds went back to normal.

    The firewall is not blocking those outgoing requests now but for some reason now the control panel pages are loading slowly.  Does anyone know why the control panel sends requests out like these each time a page is loaded in the control panel?

    Destination 198.61.161.181:8080 (not sure what this is but it’s always this IP address. Can’t ping it and there’s no DNS entry for this IP address)
    Destination 74.125.129.84:443 (these IP addresses vary but are google sites if you open in a browser)

    Looking at the firewall logs back when the control panel speed was fine last week the size of the requests to 198.61.161.181:8080 were always 134 bytes.  Now while it’s not working the size of the request is 222 bytes.

    I have disabled generating http headers.  I’ve cleared the cache.  I’ve disabled new version autocheck.  I patched the Linux OS of the web server as well as the SQL server and rebooted both servers.  It’s still slow loading content pages.  Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

    We found the file that was doing the call out on port 8080.  Under our cms folder /expressionengine/third_party/devotee. We commented out the contents of the function _get_updates().  All it did was checked http://expressionmonitor.com:8080/updates.  If there was no response it would show “The API could not be reached.  Try again later.”  There was a devot:ee tab on the bottom of every control panel page in ExpressionEngine and it was showing “The API could not be reached. Try again later.”  Now with the contents of the function commented out it shows:
    “A PHP Error was encountered
    Severity: Warning
    Message: Invalid argument supplied for foreach()
    Filename: core/Loader.php(727) : eval()‘d code
    Line Number: 20”
    The control panel pages load quickly now like normal.
    The port 443 request out to the Google IP addresses are from the Google analytics tab at the bottom of every control panel page I assume.
