    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to bring this to your attention. We are running EE 2.5.2 and are now getting the following error message on the EE CP home page:

An unexpected error occurred attempting to download the current ExpressionEngine version number. Please visit your Download Account to verify you are on the current version. If this error persists, please contact your system administrator

I know EE is trying to check our current version against the version available online and I think this error has something to do with the URL/domain change from ExressionEngine.com to EllisLab.com. The URL in question is the following:

    <a href="https://secure.expressionengine.com/download.php">https://secure.expressionengine.com/download.php</a>

I found this URL hard coded in 3 places:

    /system/expressionengine/controllers/cp/homepage.php (line 287)
    /system/expressionengine/accessories/acc.expressionengine_info.php (line 77)
    /system/expressionengine/accessories/acc.expressionengine_info.php (line 95)

Can someone let me know what the new URL should be so I can change it manually to get rid of this error message please? Not sure if this is fixed in EE 2.5.3 but we are not looking to update yet as we are seeing a lot of people having issues with that version. Any help is appreciated.

P.S.: Can I make a suggestion and ask to have all URL’s like this put into global vars? Perhaps put it in the config.php so we can change them from one place in cases like this where the domain/URL changes. Just my $0.02 worth.

    Cheers,

    Mike

Hi, Mike. You can always turn off EE attempting to phone home.

You can find this setting in CP Home -> General Configuration.

While you’re in that section, you may want to change the link to the EE docs:

Same issue here. Posting to be notified…

Personally, I’d rather not turn version checking off because I rarely check the official pages for updates but I do like to run the latest version.

    Thanks all…

    Hi Sue,

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate your answer but I don’t wish to turn this feature off. I do want to be notified when a new version of EE is available as I forget to check for it my self. But since EE 2.5.3 has been so buggy we have held off from upgrading. Any idea what URL I can change this to manually to get it to work?

    Thank you,

    Mike

Also getting this, both in version 2.5.2 and 2.5.5.

Anyone know if it is an issue with Expression Engine code still?

This is an issue for us too. Sue, can you describe the implications of turning phone home off? I see that the new version is displayed in the home page also when you click EE and the meta data drops down. If phone home does not affect this area, I’d consider shutting it off in General Configuration. Here’s the thing though, we have a staging environment with the same license and 99% same code and the error does not show up on that one. Is there a bug open for this internally?
