I asked this question a couple of years ago and have decided to investigate migrating to EE again so I have the same question - would I need a commercial or non-commercial license?

I run 3 sites which are community based “fan” sites. They do not support a commercial business and do not intend to make money, however there are advertisements displayed on the sites. Which license would I need?

Original question was posted here: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/149577/

One further question, if I purchase EE and a Forum module now, can I easily addon MSM and another forum module at a later date easily or must you purchase that all together at once?

    Hi CreedFeed,

Thanks for coming back for a look at ExpressionEngine!

Sounds like non-commercial would do just fine. You can add Discussion Forum or MSM at any time after the initial ExpressionEngine install.

Forum is MSM aware, so each site created under MSM can have its own dedicated forum.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Cheers,

So if I purchase MSM and set up two websites, I only need 1 Forum license? How does that work, does each forum maintain its own user lists and data, or are user lists interchangeable (i.e. you sign up for one site and you have an account on the other)?

    Hi CreedFeed,

Correct, just one license for one forum. MSM allows Multiple Forums from a single installation, each one is it’s own forum.

    Cheers,
