In a system that I have set up for a client, the board members of this organization have their own forum thread.  Someone who was a board member for a year is now just a regular user on the site, but she is still getting email notifications of threads that she is “subscribed to”, even though she doesn’t actually have access to these threads anymore on the website. She tries to click on unsubscribe, but gets a notice that she doesn’t have permission to view this forum.

So, she is continuing to be notified of threads that she is no longer privy to.  How can we clear her from these? Is this a bug that she should first be checked to see if she has permission for this forum before emailing her an update?

    Hi Ryan,

I am sorry to see the inconvenience here.

Have you tried un-subscribing though the member’s Forum member Control Panel?

Logged in, the user should be able to visit:

    domain/forums/member/update_subscriptions

    And unsubscribe there without error.

Let me know the result of that.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for the response Dan.

The link worked when I substituted “member” in the URL for my custom Profile Triggering Word.

However, while this user is trustworthy enough to unsubscribe from threads that she is no longer privy to, is there no way to automatically prevent people from receiving email notifications about threads that they should no longer be able to access?  That is, without having to trust them to log in and unsubscribe themselves?

    Hey Ryan,

I can totally see the use case for this - a bit of garbage collection when a user is “demoted”...

It isn’t a feature or facility in ExpressionEngine right now. Of course, you can make a Feature Request... but I’ll pull this thread over into my “stack of things to tend to” and move the ball on this end. I certainly think I can advocate for this one.

Is there anything else I can assist you with?

    Cheers,
