    Hi:

New install of EE 2.5, no content. Upgraded yesterday to 2.5.1.

I’m creating my channel fields and the file fieldtype is not on the list.

I’ve attached a screenshot. It is in system/expressionengine/fieldtypes. See second screenshot.

I have the file module installed, if that makes any difference, and I’m logged in as SuperAdmin.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi jejuna,

Can you check that the file fieldtype is installed by going to Add-Ons > Fieldtypes and making sure that the ‘File’ type reports its status as ‘Installed’. Normally when you install EE the File fieldtype is installed by default but the File module is not unless you check it to be installed. If after installation of EE you then go to install the File module it will, by default, have the Uninstall radio button option selected for the File fieldtype and it is easy to miss that little detail resulting in one accidentally uninstalling the fieldtype.

So, I did need to click install on the File module, but after installing the fieldtype from there, though it was already showing as installed on the fieldtype list, I tried again to add an image and it did not fix it.

If I open an older post that already has an image in it, I can see the thumbnail in the edit screen and on the live site.  But if I try to change the photo, it breaks and I cannot get it to display.

    Hi b-rod,

What version of EE are you running. Did you previously upgrade from an earlier version or are you running a fresh install? Also, did you check to ensure that both the File upload folder and the files in it are writable?

    I recently upgraded from 2.4 to 2.5.0.

I did set the permissions and made sure the permissions were applied to subdirectories and files.

Tried again to add a file and no luck.

Owen, thanks for the reply. The file type was indeed uninstalled in the Add-Ons. Thanks for the heads-up on where to look!

    Hi b-rod,

With your update to 2.5, did you convert any of your fields over to Rich Text fields?

We have a bug with RTE conversion and existing images.

I look forward to your reply!

    Cheers,
