Seeking some project advice

Hello EE Community and thank you in advance to those who take the time to read and/or offer suggestions and advice.

I am working on a project and somewhat “confused” about the direction I should be taking in regards to addons I may need in order to deliver a well thought out finished product.

The client hopes to have a website that will allow him to offer online test to offenders who are mandated by law to take this course/test as part of their court ordered sentence. The offense is not important in this discussion so I will leave it at that.

So here is what they need to be able to do: The “client/offender” will visit the site and purchase the course, using PayPal, and once the purchase is complete they will have the ability to take the test online at that time. Once they complete the test, they will need to be able to print a certificate of completion or at least be able to receive some type of certificate via email.

    So here are my questions:

      1) What suggestions do you have for setting up an online test? All questions are multiple choice or true/false. I have taken a look at “4-EE Quiz” I found on Devot-ee which looks promising, but would like to look at a few others if someone could suggest a few.

      2) Do you feel the EE Membership module will cause any limitations and should I be looking at Solspace’s Members module for any reason for this project?

      3) Do you think Simple Commerce can handle this type of product? There is only one test/course, in case I didn’t mention that earlier. Should I be looking at CarThrob instead, or another ecommerce module?

      4) Is there something you see from the project outline that I am missing and you feel I should consider?

I know there will probably be follow up questions before any advice can be offered and I welcome those.

Again I want to thank those who have taken the time to read this post and offer suggestions and advice. I have always experienced wonderful support and advice from the EE Community and look forward to your input.

    Hi Charles,

I think this can be done with a minimal EE setup

    1) I will use regular EE channels to store quiz answers. SAEF should do
    2) EE membership will suffice, but solspace members will make your job easy
    3) There are many ways to do this. You can use SCM to trigger a member group change when a user makes a payment or just use some php to allow paid users to post to the channel. You can also take a look at membrr module - channel Protection

Let me know if you have any questions 😊

Hello Artminister, and thank you for your reply.

Not sure about using channel entries to store the quiz answers, haven’t consider that. Since they will need a way to score the test, and possibly allow multiple chances to give the correct answer I am not sure using channels entries would work, but something to think about.

I agree that using the SCM and a change of member group would probably work fine for the commerce side of things and I’m going to give that a go before exploring full blown ecommerce modules.

I would like to know why you feel the solspace member module would be a good fit for the project. I have taken a look at it and it is an awesome module, just curious if there was a particular reason you feel it would be appropriate for this project.

Thank you once again for taking the time to post your reply, I appreciate it!

    Hi Charles,

I had done a simple surveyhere : http://www.waytogo.sg/find-your-way/company . The user can see his points at the end of the questionaire. Each answer has a point associated with it and I record the final score in a custom field using javascript.

Solspace member module provide a lot of template tags. It just makes your job easy with user registration, login, edit profile templates etc

Just went through your questionnaire and see exactly what you’ve done there. Great idea, I like the way you’ve set that up. Very nice indeed. Definitely something for me to consider and try out before using an add on module.

I agree with what you’re saying about the solspace User module. It would definitely make my life easier regarding the member templates. I’m sure the user module is the way to go.

Thank you again for the follow-up!

    Charles
