Any news on Language support?  I’m going to need Dutch, Spanish and Russian languages in the CP soon…

You can make your own language packs. I’ve been working on my own Spanish pack for a couple of weeks now. A lot of stuff to translate but once I’m done i’ll share it with everybody.

@Andru- not ridiculous at all, though I don’t have a good answer for you.  It’s still in progress, with comments preventing the last big roadblock to a resolution.

It is actually, ridiculous. This has become the #1 vapor-ware feature of EE and the entire reason I’ve abandoned EE. Initially, the gallery feature was what brought me to EE, but now…

@HilversumJim - EL doesn’t actually create the language packs, just the mechanism for creating them and then will make them available when they exist.  That said- how that’s distributed is being improved as I speak.  So I can’t really say when or if 2.x versions of those packs will be available soon.

Don’t worry, HilversumJim, language pack distribution is “being improved”, apparently with the same sense of urgency that EllisLab brings to the gallery module issue. In other words, keep on standing by, sucker. Six months ago, I asked a tickler question about whatever happened to language packs, since at that time a year had passed since we were told “EllisLab is changing the way [it] handles language packs” as an explanation for why the language pack page is tumbleweed junction. Nothing since then, bringing the issue to 18 months and counting since it was promised for action.

Not that it needs more roadblocks, but is any consideration being given to any third-party add-ons that interact with the Gallery? For example, tags on gallery images that associate to the ID of the gallery entry. Given that the converted gallery entries will have new IDs.

I realize that you may not be able to say much, but if you’ve decided that it is impossible to take that into account, it would definitely be good to know.

I’m kind of hoping a third party doesn’t come in and offer a commercial plugin. Why pay more for an additional amount for a feature that once existed on an earlier, paid, edition?

I agree - but at this point, if EllisLab sold a 2.x Gallery add-on for a separate fee, I’d have to pay it. I’m basically shackled to EE 1.x until this happens, unless I switch to another platform completely. I guess some might argue that it’s silly of me to be waiting around on a company that seems to have left me high and dry twice now, but, man…2.x looks great, and the third-party devs have some killer software for it. I just have no way of accessing it unless I abandon a huge feature of our current site.
