    Hello,

    I’m having an issue with installing EE2 at godaddy hosting. I’m pretty sure all my settings are correct, but I get the error message:

    “A Database Error Occurred
    Unable to connect to your database server using the provided settings.
    Filename: controllers/wizard.php
    Line Number: 1512”

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Carl

    What information are you using to connect your database. Godaddy can be funny with what you use. In the past I’ve had to go to phpMyAdmin and grab the link from there.

    I’ve yet to successfully install. I went to phpMyAdmin and got the links to the database name, etc. I still end up with the error. I suppose my next stop is GoDaddy support. EE sites hosted elsewhere are a snap to install. I’m just not getting this. It’s probably something simple.

    Thanks,

    Carl

    Carl,

    I feel your pain. I’ve had nothing but problems when trying to get EE up and running on Godaddy in the past. When you figure it out, post it back here if you could. I would love to know what the issue was just for future reference.

    Thanks,

    so i had this exact problem.

    I have set up my local macbook with mysql and php, etc.

    i found if i used localhost as my database host i had the problem but if i use 127.0.0.1 the problem goes away.

    this might be peculiar to my setup but maybe the information will help you out.

    Carl,

    Can you copy system/expressionengine/utilities/dbtest.php into your root. Edit the settings inside the file and view it through your browser. Is the result the same?

    The database host can be localhost, an IP or an actual host name.

    I’m having exactly the same problem. I’ve always used localhost in the past, but the most recent version of ExpressionEngine won’t install.

    Please advise.

    @Carl - Can I just check to see if you’re still having any problems with this?

    @Tony - Are you just trying to install on a localhost or were you also originally trying to install on a web server?

    @mwdesign - Did you try as John Henry mentioned above and see what that returns on your install?

    Thanks all!

    Okay. I did this:

    “...copy system/expressionengine/utilities/dbtest.php into your root.”

    When I load the page in my browser I get this message:

    Unable to connect to your database server

    Unable to select your database

    So now:

    “Edit the settings inside the file and view it through your browser”

    How do I do this? (I’m sorry, I need step-by-step how-to instructions!)

    Hi mwdesign,

    To fill out the dbtest.php file you will need to fill in the following information in that file :

    $hostname    = "YOUR_HOSTNAME";
    $username    = "YOUR_USERNAME";
    $password    = "YOUR_PASSWORD";
    $db_name    = "NAME_OF_YOUR_DATABASE";

    Did you create the database on your server or does your host do that? If the latter then you may need to contact them to find out the required information but once you have filled out those pieces of information correctly you should hopefully be able to establish a connection to your database.

    The message you are seeing that you showed in your post above will be either because you haven’t filled out that information yet or haven’t filled it in correctly.

    If you can find out the correct information and fill that out then let us know what the result is in your browser please.

    Thanks.

    Mark.

    Okay, I did that. I’m getting the same “Unable to connect to your database server/Unable to select your database” error message.

    I created it. What now?

    Hi mwdesign,

    If you are sure that the details you’ve placed into the dbtest.php file are correct then I think you will probably need to ask your host on this one as I’m afraid we can’t support that level of troubleshooting.

    Just double check with them that the details you are using there are correct and ask them if there’s anything else you should be doing in order to get a connection to your database working.

    Thanks.

    Mark
