    ok so…I’ve just downloaded the newest build of EE:

    Current Version: 2.1.3 - Build: 20101220

    I’ve also downloaded the server test wizard and ran it on my host…all checks were successful..

    I’ve uploaded all the files to the www root of the site, didn’t rename the system folder or change any paths, changed all the permissions as is written in the documentation…and I’ve gone through dozens of these topics here, tried changing the [‘uri_protocol’] thingy to Query string…nothing works…as soon as I open the install url I get the message:

    “Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: index.php”

    I don’t know what else to try…I should mention that there is an old version of the site I am currently switching to EE on the server…but it’s a flash site and most of the content is in raw html files on the server, there is also a htaccess file but it doesn’t do any URL rewriting…I went ahead and renamed all of the old folders and the htaccess file just to see if the installation would work…no luck

    help!

    i presume problem is in path in config.php file?

    not sure, I didn’t rename or change anything, left the system directory name default

    the only thing I tried later was changing the [‘uri_protocol’] in the config.php file in system/installer/config to both QUERY STRING and REQUEST_URI…no luck

    yes, EE default, the index.php in the root has this:

    $system_path = ‘./system’;

    while the index.php in the system folder just has an empty

    $system_path = “”;

    could someone please help me out here, it’s rather urgent and my client is waiting for the site to be up…I can’t believe this is even happening, 1.x used to be so stable, never ever had such problems with it…now I can’t even install EE to begin with

    Same problem here .......
    Trying to update to 2.1.3 - business as usual, until hitting the domain.com/system/, where I just get the “Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly (...)” error.

    Doublechecked every path and variable in the index.php and config.php files, but nothing there out of the ordinary ...........

    I tried moving the system folder above www root just to see what would happen, same problem

    I installed 1.7 with no problems, then tried upgrading to 2.1.3…same problem..

    I tried every single variation of the paths in the index files, also tried every other suggestion that I could find in the last 6 months of topics written here on the subject

    nothing works

    Could we please get an official support staff reply in here?

    it’s been a whole day and I can see that you are replying to almost every topic in this forum apart from this one…have I not provided enough information? what’s the problem?

    somehow I think not being able to install EE should have a bigger priority than “version number not showing”

    really sorry to be so pissed off but if there is a reason why I’m not getting a reply here I would like to know…even a simple “it’s a known bug and we’re working on it” would suffice

    thank you

    Just ran a simple

    <?php phpinfo(); ?>

    , and it seems my server’s still running php4.
    I guess that’s a problem - so I’ll go for 2.0.2 now instead of 2.1.3 ....

    Have done a simple test like that, or checked that the wizard you’ve run is up to date?

    yes I did that as well, here are some infos from my cpanel:

    cPanel Version   11.28.60
    Apache version   2.2.17
    PHP version   5.2.14
    MySQL version   5.0.91-community
    Architecture   x86_64
    Operating system linux

    I made a testphp.php file, uploaded it to the root, ran it…and got the same info as in cpanel:

    PHP Version 5.2.14

    Every one of your replies bumps the thread back to the bottom of the queue.

    We’re using an automated FIFO system.

    As to your initial issue: is that a new install or an upgrade? Also try to remove any .htaccess files just in case.

    fair enough, thanks for replying

    new fresh install, all htaccess files removed

    still not working…actually tried it on a completely different machine and hosting account and got the very same message:

    Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: index.php
