    jtree,

Not to confuse things but can you try this method in the Wiki article to login across both domains

I tried all the steps including removing the last one (removing the cookie domain).  I assume this meant both sites.  I’m still having the same issue.

    3, which corresponds to Guest

OK. So you aren’t logged in as a Super Admin on the second site. Can you switch from Site 1 to Site 2 via the control panel? What’s the control panel session type and cookie domain for the 2nd site?

Yes, I can switch from Site 1 to Site 2 via the control panel.

I removed the cookie domain for both sites per the instructions John linked too for EE Wiki : Multiple Domain Login .  It’s the last sentence on the page.

The Control Panel Session Type is set to “Cookies and Session ID”.  The user session type is set to “cookies only”.

Are you able to login via the front-end of Site2 and verify that it shows your group id as 1?

Also take a look at this page on masking CP access; depending on how you want to handle logging into both sites this might work for you.

login via the front-end of Site2

I’m not sure if I’m following you correctly.  I haven’t started building the site.  I’m trying to get MSM working. So how would I login through the front-end?

I tried the CP masking you linked to.  I set this up and it appears to be working correctly.  So I logged into my subdomain http://www.my2ndsite.com/admin.php.  This correctly logged me into the CP for the 2nd site, but I’m still being recognized as a Guest (ie can’t post to any weblogs and can’t view site when offline).

You could just create a test template with the login form tag.

In the 2nd site’s control panel’s sidebar, what does it say for the group (under your username?) I’m confused on why it would even let you into the CP as a guest, unless that ability was specifically assigned to the Guest group at some point.

I tried putting the login form tag into a new template on my 2nd site (the one that is giving me issues).  I went to the template and logged in and it showed me as being in member group 1 (super admin).

I’m not sure what you mean by what is showing in the 2nd site’s control panel’s sidebar?  I’m using EE 1.6.9.  It just says current user at the top with my screen name.  Also I haven’t done anything with customizing the groups within the CP.

At this point it would be easier to just go in and take a look around. Please check your email in a few minutes.

Hi jtree, I took a look and filled in the missing settings for the main site’s path.php file.

Other than that, I’m able to login on the front-end of one site and automatically be logged into the front-end on the other. If you login to the control panel on the main site, you won’t automatically be logged into the front-end of the second site. Also, the reason you were seeing an error when going to the Publish tab of the second site was that no weblogs had been created for that site.

To me it looks like everything is now working as expected. Hope that helps.

Can you let me know what settings were incorrect in the path.php file so I can know what to look for in future MSM site builds that might have this problem?  Thanks for your help!

    jtree,

I believe Brandon filled in missing settings as opposed to changing incorrect settings. If you open up your path.php you can see the ones he added.
